The Team
Polo Chau
Graduated August 2005Polo Chau is a natural designer and very tech savvy. Don't be afraid of the noises he makes. It is only because he is stressed out and an incredibly diligent worker. He believes that technologies will one day be intuitive enough for almost all people to use. Polo is interested in modeling human behaviors, and creating innovative, intuitive and intelligent user interfaces. He has a background in engineering, and has extensive experience in various aspects of design.
Janette Fong
Graduated August 2005Janette Fong is a full time masters' student in the Human-Computer Interaction Institute. Definitely not lactose intolerant, because she was able to last an ice cream tour with her fellow teammate Jennifer. Janette received her B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from MIT in 2003. Her primary interests are in mobile computing, peripheral and attention management displays, and assistive technologies. She is heading into the depths of South America soon to be...changed forever.
Hari Khalsa
Graduated August 2005Hari Khalsa is a full time masters student in HCII and received her B.S. in Computer Science from the University of California, San Diego, in 2002. After graduation she spent two years doing enterprise software support for the Data Management division of IBM in Silicon Valley, including several projects to improve the product's documentation. Her bichon puppy Milo is a reflection of Hari in every way--playful, curious, and secretly wild. Her interests are in usable software interfaces and ways to design for systems that go beyond the traditional desktop.
Jennifer Ng
Graduating in December 2005Jennifer obtained her B.A. in Cognitive Science with an emphasis in computational modeling at UC Berkeley in May 2004. During her undergraduate program, she also was a research assistant for Berkeley's Group of User Interface Research (GUIR) where designed and performed user studies for location-based applications. Her research interests lie in the social impact of technology and ubiquitous computing. Ultimately, her goal is to improve technology in such a way that it seamlessly blends into all our lives. She will be continuing her masters degree until December 2005.
Joonkoo Park
Graduated August 2005Joonkoo, a full time Masters student in HCI, earned his BS in Industrial Engineering at Seoul National University where he focused on human factors engineering and on developing human-centered interfaces. His main interest has been human information processing, including cognition and perception. In this IETM project, he is excited to learn and explore multimodal interaction methods that can greatly affect our lives. Joonkoo likes to take street photos, and he hopes to become another Robert Frank or Henri Cartier-Bresson.
Sandhya Pillalamarri
Graduated in August 2005Sandhya graduated magna cum laude from Arizona State University in May 2003, with a degree in Computer Science, Pre-medicine, and a minor in Biology. She is currently a full-time student in the Human-Computer Interaction Masters program and plans to graduate in August 2005. After graduation she would like to continue working in the software industry with an emphasis in HCI and design products and technology that are easy to use and make people happy. Sandhya enjoys singing Indian classical music, learning more about the business world, playing badminton and racquet ball (recently), and cooking for her family and friends.
